In July 2009, the Australian Government will introduce legislation for an expanded Renewable Energy Target (RET) of an additional 45,000 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity in 2020.

As part of the governmentís commitment to an expanded RET, purchasers of eligible small generation units, such as roof top solar systems, will receive Solar Credits to assist with the upfront cost of installing the systems.

Rooftop solar systems will generate solar credits equal to 15 years in advance, redeemable up-front based on the potential generation over the life of the system. From 1 July 2009 until June 2012, the number of solar credits received will be multiplied by five, enabling householders an increased return from their generation. From June 2012, the amount of credits will be reduced annually until 2016. The new system will apply to the first 1.5 kilowatts of system capacity.

Electricity can be generated from the sun using Photovoltaics. A solar cell or photovoltaic cell is a device that converts solar energy into electricity by the photovoltaic effect. Photovoltaics, or PV for short, is a technology that converts light directly into electricity. To explain the photovoltaic solar panel more simply, photons from sunlight knock electrons into a higher state of energy, creating electricity.

A Solar Smart Power System has two main components that produce usable electricity; Solar or PV Panels that convert sunlight into electricity.

An inverter that converts this electricity into 240 Volt AC that can be used to power your home.

Grid connected system means that any power you create goes back into the main power system. You pay the difference between what you create and what you use. Become your own mini renewable energy power station.

Depending on the size of the Solar Power system it can save from 25% to 100% of electricity to being a net producer of power back into the grid. The average home uses around $1000.00 per year in electricity. A 1kw system can reduce this by as much as 25%.

1500W Standard Solar Power System System Components:

This system is good for people who use approximately 9 units of electricity per day. On average this will produce approximately $520.00 worth of electricity per year.

525W System Upgrade System Components:

Upgrades are avaliable once the Base System of 1500kW has been purchased. The system upgrades can be added to an existing system or added to the Base System.

Systems are upgradeable up to 5kW. Note that the Base Inverter will need to change once systems go above 2kW's.
